Browse at Your Own Pace

Begin wherever your curiosity leads. The studies will be here when you’re ready. When I shared my first Matthew study on Facebook today, I mentioned that I planned to post daily, though I might not share every post on Facebook. As I continue setting up this blog, I’ve realized that what matters most to me is making my past studies available for anyone who wants to explore them. For now, I’ll be adding posts to my heart’s content as I work through those studies. Some days that may mean one post; other days it may mean several. I’ll continue reading through and preparing each one before sharing it. There is no need to keep up with everything as it appears. This blog is becoming a place you can browse at your own pace—begin with a book, a question, or a study that interests you, and follow from there. The Bible Books page gathers studies by book, while Study Threads helps connect topics that travel through more than one book. The labels on individual posts also bring related material to...

Hearing ~ Seeing ~ Revealing — Study Guide

What Was Taken Will Be Restored

About This Study

Hearing ~ Seeing ~ Revealing follows three connected movements: hearing what is spoken, examining what is before us, and recognizing what is revealed.

Whose voice are we following? Does an outward appearance establish what is within? How do we respond when Scripture challenges what we have accepted?

Throughout the series, we examine hearing, understanding, deception, provision, God’s dwelling, and the difference between receiving what is given and claiming what belongs to another. These connections invite personal examination: Are we willing to receive correction and respond with love, humility, and obedience?

A Note About This Study Guide

During my review, I realized that some separate study discussions had become combined with the outline for this series. This made the guide appear to promise material that was not developed within the published posts.

I am adjusting the guide to reflect the series itself. Separate discussions will remain available for their own studies, while two supporting addenda develop connections from Hearing more fully.

Readers may follow the three parts in order or return to individual posts. The purpose is to examine the passages, test what is presented, and seek understanding from YHWH (יהוה).

Part One — Hearing

The Word Spoken, Received, and Understood

Hearing words does not always mean receiving or understanding them. This section examines the voice we follow, the provision we receive, and what happens to the word after we hear it.

Do we examine how Scripture is being used? Are we receiving instruction—or searching for an answer that agrees with what we already want? When understanding comes, will we allow it to correct us?

Bible Books and Connections

Genesis — God’s instruction, the serpent’s words, desire, taking, and the beginning of deception.

Exodus and Deuteronomy — Manna, wilderness testing, daily provision, and the responsibility to follow the instruction given.

Proverbs and Amos — Wisdom and folly’s invitations, receiving correction, and the famine of hearing the words of YHWH (יהוה).

Matthew, Mark, and Luke — Scripture used in temptation, the seed being sown, different responses to hearing, and the importance of endurance.

John and 1 Corinthians — Understanding given through the Spirit, remembering Christ’s words, and recognizing their meaning afterward.

Hosea and Revelation — The woman in the wilderness, provision, and words spoken to her heart.

Galatians and 1 John — Receiving correction, testing the spirits, and continuing in what has been received.

Part Two — Seeing

Looking Beyond the Outward Appearance

What do we recognize when we look—and what might we overlook? This section examines appearance, recognition, God’s dwelling, clothing, light, and the difference between a claim and what is practiced.

Does possessing a sacred object establish God’s presence? Does wearing a name or appearing righteous make the claim true? When we examine others, are we also willing to examine ourselves?

Bible Books and Connections

John, 1 Samuel, and James — Recognition, outward appearance, the heart, and the danger of judging people through partiality.

Jeremiah and Acts — Claims made about God’s house, His dwelling, and resistance to His instruction.

Ezekiel — Corruption within the sanctuary, those marked amid that corruption, and the departure of Glory.

1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians — God’s sanctuary, what dwells within, deceptive appearances of light, and the responsibility to examine ourselves.

Genesis, Isaiah, Joel, and Revelation — Birthright, clothing, names, exchanges, and the distinction between what is given and what is claimed.

Zechariah — Garments removed and supplied, the lampstand and olive trees, and the visions concerning what is carried.

James, Proverbs, and 1 Corinthians — Looking into the mirror, receiving correction, practicing what is heard, and examining our actions through love.

Part Three — Revealing

What Was Hidden Becomes Known

This section examines how understanding is revealed, how people respond, and how actions expose what appearances may conceal. It returns to the distinction between what God gives and what someone claims or takes.

Who receives the credit when understanding is given? Does receiving understanding mean we no longer need correction? Does taking someone’s garment, position, or possessions establish rightful ownership?

Bible Books and Connections

Daniel — The hidden dream revealed, and Daniel’s acknowledgment that understanding comes from God.

1 Corinthians — Wisdom revealed through the Spirit, the examination of human claims, and what comes to light when works and motives are disclosed.

Acts and Galatians — Christ revealed to Paul, his changed direction, and the correction of Peter when his conduct showed partiality.

John — Receiving what is given from heaven, coming to the light, and the distinction between the bridegroom and his friend.

Isaiah and Jeremiah — Claiming a name while retaining one’s own provision, and claiming to speak for YHWH (יהוה) without being sent.

Genesis and 1 Peter — Joseph’s garment, false accusation and confinement, alongside Christ’s suffering and proclamation to the spirits in prison.

Revelation — Babylon’s claims and exposure, what cannot remain, and the invitation of the Spirit and bride to receive the water of life freely.

Closing Reflections

The two concluding posts return to self-examination, the difference between a bearer and what is placed upon that bearer, and the restoration of what was taken.

James, Psalms, Leviticus, Genesis, Ecclesiastes, and Revelation provide connections concerning the mirror, burdens, wrongdoing, the Spirit’s return to God, Glory, and restoration.

What does our response reveal about us? Are we testing what we follow—and allowing that examination to reach our own desires, claims, and actions?

Study Addenda

These two posts return to connections within Hearing and examine them more fully. They supplement the original series without changing its numbered order.

H01: Whose Voice Are We Following?

God’s instruction, deception, and our responsibility to examine what we hear. Are we seeking understanding from God—or allowing someone else to carry the responsibility of examination for us?

H02: Will We Receive What God Gives?

Manna, provision, recognition, and our response to what is given. Do we receive instruction when it challenges our expectations? How does our treatment of others reflect what we claim to follow?

Following the Study

The original series is complete: eight Hearing posts, thirteen Seeing posts, eight Revealing posts, and two closing Reflections. The two addenda provide further examination of selected connections.

Read at your own pace, with the passages open. Examine what is presented, including what is shared here. Familiarity does not establish truth, and an unfamiliar explanation should be examined rather than automatically accepted or dismissed. Read Acts 17:11.

Take your questions to YHWH (יהוה), approaching the Father in Christ’s name. Seek understanding without making another person—or your own understanding—the final authority. Read Proverbs 3:5–6 and John 16:23–24.

Throughout that examination, keep love central. Knowledge, speech, and impressive claims cannot replace it. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1–3.

The books were opened…
